The 2024 season got off to a bad start with Stinchcombe Hill being unplayable and so we had to wait until we experienced the delights of Sherbourne Golf Club. As always the course never fails to disappoint and the 22 members enjoyed a great day with Leighton carrying on where he left off the previous season winning the Lancaster Trophy with 17 points
The final Captains Day hosted by Leighton was played at Petersons Lakes, which was well supported by 18 members who all enjoyed his hospitality and a golf course which everyone enjoys and I hope we will have on the schedule once again. A new winner emerged from the pack and with 20 points, Bruce Wickes walked off with the Captains Trophy
Presidents Day was this year held at Enmore Park, a traditional parkland course with tight fairways and water requiring accuracy off the the tee which in itself was a challenge for the many of the members. Setting a theme for the year or Leighton deciding to take the year off, saw a long time member Alan Bracey win with 35 points and the Presidents Cup.
Orchardleigh Golf Club is a well supported venue and a firm favourite and whilst we all gathered in the club house, the skies got darker and the drizzle got heavier. The decision was made to cancel the day. However 8 members were not to be deterred and went out to play 18 holes. Leighton perhaps was trying to get another Trophy but as no official competition took place last years winner can hold on to the Trophy a little bit longer, How's that for luck :Leighton, the Presidents Trophy is still yours.
Oake Manor prove to be uneventful as everyone made it on time without any delays on the M5. Good weather blessed us and with an international field ( one visitor from Australia) we all set off for some great golf. After missing the earlier meetings, the secretary played a blinder and with a winning score of 23 points won the spoils and the Tony Watts Trophy.
Weston Super Mare is host to the final meeting of the season and the AGM. Sadly the numbers are below our normal number with only 14 members attending. However, i am sure a great time will be had by all.
During the winter months, both Neil and I will be putting together a great schedule for 2025 and we look forward to seeing everyone again fit and ready to go with our New Captain leading the way.
